At this year’s DMA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia I-Behavior, a database services company, will conduct an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Georgia World Congress Center in lieu of hosting a party during the convention. The Blood Drive will take place on Tuesday, October 18 th from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M near the DMA Registration area ( Foyer of Hall C down by the Exhibit Hall entrance of Hall C4).
“There are always plenty of parties to go to at the Conference” said I-Behavior CEO Lynn Wunderman. “The Red Cross has an urgent need to increase its outreach for blood donations, and we felt that this would be something we could do to help.”
There is no substitute for blood and the only source is from volunteer blood donors. The Red Cross collects blood all over the United States and sends it to wherever it is needed in the country. Recent hurricanes and evacuations have disrupted the Red Cross’s ability to collect blood while also increasing the need for blood in affected areas.
Each year only 5% of Americans who are eligible to donate blood actually donate. The I-Behavior program is part a nationwide effort to end recurring seasonal blood shortages and to reach more of the people who are able to give blood.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh no less than 110 pounds. A healthy person can safely give blood every 56 days. To make donating as convenient as possible, those wishing to give blood can make an appointment in advance by going to: http://www.givelife.org/index.cfm?hlc=gwccdma. Sponsor Code is: gwccdma
Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood. The Red Cross must collect blood donations each and every day to meet the needs of accident victims, cancer patients and children with blood disorders. The American Red Cross collects more than 6 million units of blood a year from volunteer donors, and provides almost half of the nation’s blood supply to 3,000 hospitals through its national network of Blood Services regions.
