On May 22 nd at this year’s Annual Catalog Conference in Orlando, Florida, I-Behavior, a provider of database services for direct marketers, worked beside nearly 200 of their clients and friends in a “Blitz Build” with Habitat for Humanity of Osceola County. A Blitz Build is just what it sounds like; hundreds of volunteers, some handy and some not, work to build the frame for a single-family home in just one day.

“We were thrilled at the success of the day” said I-Behavior CEO Lynn Wunderman. “It was our opportunity to make a difference in the community – and we truly did. There was a ripple of pride throughout the team when we raised the first completed wall.” I-Behavior employees and clients worked alongside volunteers from the community and employees from General Electric.
“When we started the day, the building site was no more than a concrete slab” said Wunderman. “By the end of the afternoon, there was the full frame of a home for a needy family. It was a great team-building experience: lots of hard work, but also a lot of fun. Several participants expressed interest in getting involved with their local Habitat chapter. The feedback has been so positive this may become an annual event.”

Habitat for Humanity of Osceola County is working to eliminate poverty housing. HFHOC builds and sells homes at no profit to families who would not qualify for conventional financing. New homeowners are required to contribute 350-500 hours of “sweat equity” toward the construction of their own and others’ homes. Habitat for Humanity International operates in 81 countries and has built more than 110,000 houses in over 2,000 communities thus far. (www.habitatosceola.com/index.html)
